How to stop snoring and enjoy a better sleep life

How to stop snoring and enjoy a better sleep life

Article by Fred Asue

There are many ways to stop snoringExercise, loss of weight, stop snoring devices, surgery, medication and the list goes on. Identifying the cause of snoring may be the most important step you can take to stop snoring. This is because snoring can be traced to different causes that are responsible for the obstruction of the air passage.

People snore for various reasons: they may snore because of nasal congestion caused by reaction to allergies. It may be a sinus infection that blocks the nasal passages because of mucus. Or even the lying down position of the person. Snoring may be caused by a large tonsil, weak tongue muscle and tissues around the throat.

Whatever may be responsible for snoring, it is advisable to first of all identify it- as it is said, a problem identified is half solved.

If for example you recently began to snore and you just added some extra pounds of weight. The snoring may be directly correlated to the weight gain. The step to take to reverse that should be a loss of weight.

If you have a weak tongue muscle and throat tissue, there are exercises on how to stop snoring. The tongue and the tissue around the throat relax during sleep. This partially obstructs the air passage creating a strange noise while breathing. Therefore, throat muscle exercise will help to solve the problem of a weak tongue and throat muscle.

Sleeping with an open mouth can cause the nasal passages and throat to vibrate. Snoring sounds occurs as air escapes this vibration. For this there is a chin snoring strap that holds the jaw in a slightly forward position. It is noteworthy that the nasal air passage should be clear for proper breathing in this case.

There are cases whereby you try almost all of the available options on how to stop snoring but you do not get any relief from them. In this kind of situation, it is advisable to see a doctor who may recommend surgery. This is because of the discovery of a large soft palate or uvula tissue at the rear of your mouth or even a much narrowed air passageway.

Personal lifestyle habits have been traced to boost snoring among people.Eating heavily before going to bed Drinking a lot of alcohol SmokingConsuming large amount of dairy based food.

This is an identification plan to trace the cause of your night time snoring. For example if you drink a lot of alcohol, slow down on this for a few days and watch for effect.

Devices, medication and exercises that will help you on how to stop snoring are available for your use. There are air pressure devices to keep the nasal and throat airway passage open. There are mouthpiece devices created by dentists to keep the lower jaw forward preventing the obstruction of the windpipe and airway. There are nasal strips to lift up the nose and open the nasal passages. There is also the throat lubricating spray which helps in moisturizing the throat and nasal passages, thus reducing vibration. And last but not the least on this list is the anti snoring chin strap which holds the jaw in a slightly forward position that keeps the airway open.

Taking a Sleep Disorder Test: First Step to Better Sleep

Taking a Sleep Disorder Test: First Step to Better Sleep

Knowing whether you have a sleeping disorder is difficult to find out by yourself. However, it is important to find out if you are suffering from one in order to help yourself get better sleep and become more functional during the day. One sure way to find out is through a sleep disorder test.

Why You Need the Test

Most of us probably do not know what goes on even in our own bodies while we are asleep. A lot of people therefore may end up suffering from a sleep disorder simply because of a lack of awareness of the symptoms and the condition, hence a need for a good sleep disorder test.

There are several types of sleeping disorders but the most common ones are insomnia, narcolepsy and sleep apnea. All these sleeping disorder conditions can be fatal and it is believed that at least 1 out of 3 Americans suffer from a sleep disorder of some sort. At the least, undiagnosed sleep disorders could affect your quality of life, making you less able to interact productively with others and perform even simple tasks. The physical stress and drain of a sleep disorder could also be psychologically damaging, leading to feelings of intense frustration and helplessness. At the worst, a sleep disorder could either be a sign of an underlying medical condition or could lead to more serious medical conditions like stroke and heart ailments.

Taking a Self Test

Although you may not be aware of what goes on as you sleep, you can perform your own sleep disorder test. You simply have to look at your own symptoms as a basic sleep disorder test. You should be worried for example if you wake up and don’t feel refreshed, if you have trouble sleeping or if you wake up frequently at night or too early.

Observe changes in your own disposition and behavior during the day. A quick temper, irritability, lack of concentration are only some points to note in your own sleep disorder test. Take note too if you frequently meet accidents and if you feel sleepy during the day.

Products for Self-Testing

Insomnia can be tested with a sleep disorder test pack that can measure your hormone levels. If you are doing a saliva sleep disorder test, look for the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is a naturally occurring substance in the body that manages a person’s perception of night and day and the cycle of sleep and wakefulness. Some people with insomnia though may have lower levels of melatonin. A sleep disorder test that will check you melatonin levels will help you determine if you need to take added melatonin supplements that are available even without a prescription.

Professional Testing

If you are not sure about the signs and symptoms, a professional opinion may be necessary. There are many kinds of tests but the most common professional sleep disorder test involves a sleep study.

In a sleep disorder test done by a professional, you may be asked to stay in the sleep disorder clinic or hospital for several hours, depending on what sleeping patterns are being checked. The procedure entails wires to be attached to you in order to monitor your heart rate, brainwaves, and breathing. Qualified personnel will then score your results for your doctor to interpret. Your doctor will then provide you with the necessary treatment for your condition. A succeeding sleep test may be conducted to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

How can I get my dog to stop snoring or at least control it better?

Question by Jillian: How can I get my dog to stop snoring or at least control it better?
She is a 13 month old Pit and Lab mix. She’s been snoring ever since she was a puppy and now its to the point where you can’t sleep. She doesn’t snore every single night. A couple days might pass with her not snoring then she will start again, it just varies. Is there anything I can do about it?

Best answer:

Answer by iluvmyfrenchbulldogs
Can you try getting her to sleep in another room or a different place to sleep? My dogs only snore when they are laying on their backs, but they are Frenchies so it comes with the breed lol.

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!
