How to cure Insomnia if sleeping pills don’t work? But not using natural herbal remedies?

Question by Jane: How to cure Insomnia if sleeping pills don’t work? But not using natural herbal remedies?
What happens if ya have insomnia and you don’t know what the cause is? If sleeping tablets don’t work what would be next? Could anxiety or depression cause insomnia?

Hi Jane,

Many factors could lead to insomnia, anxiety or depression are among them. There could also be other reasons triggering your insomnia that you might not notice.

Hence, it’s important to find out the cause so as to nip your insomnia problem in the bud.

Understanding the cause also helps to identify if you belong to Acute (short term) or Chronic (long-term) insomnia (refer to the source below).

Sleeping pills can only bring you temporary relief and some unpleasant side effects. Besides, they may not really get you down to deep sleep.

When they don’t work on you anymore, that could mean your tolerance level to their effect has raised and you probably need higher dosage.

Overtime, you may get addicted to sleeping pills. So I suggest you to stop them completely now since they don’t work on your insomniac condition now.

Actually, you can overcome insomnia using these natural methods:

1.Regular exercises

2.Taking a warm bath before bed

3.Avoid caffeinated drinks after 7pm

4.Turn off your communication electronic devices such as cellphone or blackberry

5.Create a comfy environment for sleeping like soft lighting and comfortable room temperature

6.Avoid napping for more than 30 minutes during the day

7.Improve your diet by reducing meat intake and eating more fruits and vegetables

Above are just some tips I extracted from the source below. If you want to learn more, you can refer to the source. That article is very comprehensive and full of insomnia information.

You can even find a permanent cure (no herbal, no drugs, all-natural) inside the content and get to sleep tonight if that’s what you want.

Hope that helps.

cheers,
Laura Ng

Cure Your Sleep Disorder With Natural Treatments

Cure Your Sleep Disorder With Natural Treatments

The treatments for sleep disorders today can be generally grouped into three categories: behavioral or psychotherapeutic treatments, sleep medications or drugs and treatments that don’t fit into the other two categories. The excessive sleep disorder narcolepsy will cause most patients to have unexpected periods of sleep throughout the day for as little as a few minutes to as long as half an hour at times.

There are generally three types of sleep disorders: lack of enough sleep, sleep disturbance, and too much or excessive sleep. The person suffering from a sleep disorder may have difficulty getting to sleep at night or staying asleep as well as having difficulty staying awake through the day; they may also experience different types of behaviors that prevent them from staying asleep during their normal sleeping hours. One type of sleep disorder, lack of sleep, is also commonly known as insomnia and is what people usually have rather than a more complex sleeping disorder.

Sleep apnea can be life threatening; this problem is usually accompanied by heavy and loud snoring and causes the person to wake up sometimes hundred of times during the night without remembering ever being awake. In the excessive sleep disorder type the most well-known is called narcolepsy. Finding that you need coffee, colas or other caffeine drinks throughout the day to stay alert or awake can also be a hint that sleep disorder treatments need to be investigated.

There are number of sleep disorders that appear in different people and even those with similar sleep disorders often display different symptoms. Many people say they survive nicely on four or five hours of sleep; others say they need nine or even ten hours. The sleep disorder narcolepsy can have complications such as cataplexy and hypnagogic hallucinations; cataplexy is the weakness or complete paralysis of the muscles, and hypnagogic hallucinations are vivid dreams that happen during the stage of sleep between being awake and being asleep.

Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome is a sleep disorder of circadian rhythm, characterized by the inability to wake up and fall asleep at the desired times, but not by the inability to stay asleep. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) is the involuntary movement of arms and/or legs during sleep. Narcolepsy is the sleep disorder of falling asleep spontaneously and unwillingly.

Don’t get into the habit of drinking a glass of wine, hard liquor, or any other alcoholic beverage at bedtime; alcohol is a central nervous system depressant and it will interfere with your REM (rapid eye movement) sleep and cause other problems you might not be aware of. Some health experts suggest that contracting then relaxing all your muscles starting with your toes and proceeding upwards as you lie in bed can help you relax. In bed do try to focus on anything pleasant, long enough to distract you from any worries that are keeping you awake.

Some people say that sleeping with your head facing north helps you fall asleep because your body is better aligned with the earth. Concentrating on some of the insomnia tips you’ve heard in the past may put your mind at rest long enough to allow you to go to sleep. Your pillow may make you feel as though you’re lying uphill or downhill and if it is too hard may press into your head uncomfortably, reducing the chance of your falling asleep.

In some sleep tests they used a flashlight to shine light on the back of the knee and tested the reaction of the brain on the sleeping centers and the light was detected; your body knows when there is a light shining on the back side of your body. Make sure that you don’t have any light on in the bedroom, including the red light on digital clocks, night lights or any other light, even a small flicker; any light at all can stop the production of melatonin which is produced when it starts getting dark enough in your bedroom but may shut down if even the smallest light is glowing. You need to produce melatonin for a good nights sleep.

If you lie in bed struggling with the day’s stresses and worries, try some of the insomnia tips you’ve heard over the years such as counting sheep or visualizing a blank screen. Some doctors may offer sleeping medications as a short-term solution along with some insomnia tips, but will seek to find the underlying cause of the sleeplessness and treat the cause instead of the symptom. Among the many insomnia tips provided by doctors and other health professionals, the most important tip is the ability to get physically relaxed enough to fall asleep.

Finding the solution to your sleeping problems or sleep disorder will be worth the investment in time. Your doctor or sleep specialist may be able to recommend support groups to you. Consider going to a sleep disorder center because they provide the newest research for the many issues that involve any sleep disorder.

Snoring Cure: What Are They?

Snoring Cure: What Are They?

People who snore can be funny but when you get to sleep with someone who snores loudly every night, it becomes annoying. That is why, it is important to know the ways to cure snoring.

Here are the following ways and methods to cure snoring:

Breathing exercise – Snoring happens when there is a blockage happening in the breathing passage, particularly at the throat area. And this blockage might be because of a tensed throat, wrong positioned jaw, or stuffed nose. Take several deep breaths in order to relax the throat and make breathing normal again.

Decongestants – There are instances wherein the cause of snoring is nasal congestion. Here, the person tends to breathe through his mouth which may trigger snoring. Taking decongestants will free any blockage and relieve the person from snoring.

Anti-allergy medications – There are some allergies that result to the enlargement of adenoids. Once the allergy is cured, the snoring usually stops.

Exercise and proper diet – If the person is obese, he probably snores. This is because there is fat concentration on the airways that limits the air to go in and out freely. Also, fat formation on the stomach restricts the diaphragm to perform properly. Thus, snoring occurs. In fact, around 40% of the obese population snores. Taking regular exercise and proper diet can reduce the weigh and stop snoring, not to mention other health risks associated with obesity.

Change of bed position – There are occasions wherein snoring is the result of wrong sleeping position. Sometimes, sleeping with too many pillows can stretch and narrow the air passage. Use one pillow to avoid it.  Also, lying on the back can cause snoring. So, a change in sleeping position can be a good help.

Change of lifestyle – Smoking and alcohol can contribute to the onset of snoring. Snoring may be a result of other medical conditions caused by these two. So, to maintain a good and healthy life, the person should stop or reduce smoking and alcohol intake, which in turn can cure snoring.

Review medications – Antihistamines, sleeping pills, and other types of medications can worsen snoring.

Regular sleeping habits – There are two periods of sleep: the REM sleep where the person experiences frequent dreaming and deep sleep, and the Stage 1 sleep which should only be experienced during falling asleep but can also be experienced several times if the person is sleeping poorly. Both can trigger the development of unstable breathing that can cause snoring. Irregular sleeping can also cause respiratory instability that result to unstable breathing during sleep.

Saltwater nasal droops – Nasal congestion caused by mucus can disrupt sleep and can cause snoring. To prevent this, saltwater nasal drops can be used to flush out the mucus. There are over the counter saltwater nasal drops available in drugstores. However, you can also make it on your own. Dissolve ผ teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of sterilized water. Let the water cool down to body temperature and place it to a nose dropper.

However, if snoring is caused by other serious condition such as sleep apnea and enlargement of adenoids and/or tonsils, some surgical procedures like Laser Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP) and radio frequency tissue ablation (RFTA) or Somnoplasty can be applied. It is important therefore to know the exact cause of snoring before taking any action.

What’s the best way to cure insomnia during pregnancy?

Question by Becky S: What’s the best way to cure insomnia during pregnancy?
I’ve been suffering from insomnia during pregnancy for a couple months now and I want to know what the easiest way to cure insomnia during pregnancy is. I’ve taken those herbal remedies like Sleep-MD and they don’t seem to be much of a cure for insomnia. So what are my best options for curing insomnia during pregnancy?

Best answer:

Answer by Josh W
Insomnia during pregnancy is usually caused by discomfort on the growing abdomen and stress from expecting a new baby. You can try several things from home to help you relax your body and mind like: taking a warm bath and lighting up some of your favorite scented candles, listen to relaxing music before bedtime, or even adjusting the room temperature to where you feel most comfortable. As far as removing the discomfort from the abdomen goes, I’d suggest going out and purchasing a pregnancy body pillow. It’s designed to curve with your body and give support so you should feel more comfortable and in return cure your pregnancy insomnia.
