Q&A: How long does effexor cause insomnia for?

Question by polojesse: How long does effexor cause insomnia for?
I just started taking effexor on Thursday for depression, anxiety, muscle pain, and migraines. Before I started taking it I would always wake up early in the morning (6 to 7 am) and not be able to fall asleep but now I also am waking up about 4 times throughout the night and having a hard time falling back asleep. My question is will this go away after the 1st couple weeks of taking this drug or will I continue having insomnia the whole time?
I have always avoided taking pills but my depression/anxiety got so bad I just lay on the couch and watch tv day from the physical pain it causes me.

GET OFF THE ANTIDEPRESSANTS NOW. They are a catastrophe. I have had many friends get destroyed forever by them. And worse yet, they don’t even know it; they were like the heroine addict saying all is well, while every last beautiful thing in them got destroyed forever. Even tapering off the meds did not bring everything back.

You have insomnia because portions of your brain are being driven to their death. Antidepressants work by killing brain cells – the drug companies describe it as “pruning offending neurons”. This info is difficult to actually track down, and your doctor or counselor may not even know it. They are serious meds that should not be out in the general public; they were developed for institutions.

Worse yet, medical professionals receive kickbacks for the prescriptions they write, which creates a financial incentive for them to put people on this garbage.

It’s pure damage all the way – please quit before it really is over.

Most likely your depression and anxiety are caused by loneliness. That is not an illness – if you are alone, forget the job and find someone to love. That will be much better than being destroyed until you can’t feel any needs.

Google “antidepressants corkscrew axons”

Google “brain zaps” and look at the drop down menu that comes up. click on effexor.

Get into the realm of discovery regarding this, and listen to the people who have been hurt by these meds, NOT your doctor.

Q&A: How do you deal with insomnia?

Question by Sara: How do you deal with insomnia?
I don’t want links to websites about insomnia or suggestions for different types of meds. I just want to know how other insomniacs like myself deal with it. How do you deal with your day at work/school? At the end of the day what do you do to help your body fall asleep?

What is Insomnia?

What is Insomnia?

Article by Kenny Ward

What is insomnia? Insomnia is when a person has any sleep related difficulties, mainly falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early in the morning. Each of these can be extremely irritating and can affect the way that the rest of your day plays out. This is because when you do get up you are still tired and not refreshed. Over a period of time people who suffer from insomnia tend to develop mood disorders, they lack motivation, the inability to concentrate, lack of energy, and constantly being tired.

People need adequate sleep in order to maintain a healthy and productive life. It has been said the people spend about 1/3 of their lifetimes sleeping. That certainly seems like a lot of time but proper sleep is needed for a healthy human body including the vital organs and the brain. The brain really works some magic while a person is asleep. Without sleep the brain begins to lose its ability to function.

While the amount of sleep that a person gets does not seem to be quite as important as the quality of sleep that they get, the two are still completely related. Insomnia has very grave effect over a period of time, both physical and psychological. Impaired mind functioning, accidents, anxiety and depression, stress, heart attacks, and headaches are common consequences of insomnia. Health can deteriorate as the person gets mentally and physically weaker, becomes more irritable, and develops a wakened immune system that can lead to all kinds of illness.

Sleep occurs in a very unique manner. When it is time for sleep, the retina in the eye sends a message to your brain; your brain in turn sends a message to another part of the brain to produce the hormone melatonin, this in turn causes a drop in body temperature and the person begins to feel signs of sleepiness. While this is going on, the brain starts to deactivate three of the brains chemical messengers that are responsible for keeping one alert, histamine, norephinephrine, and serotonin. So it is very important that the brain gets its rest so that it can function properly on a daily basis.

There are various types of insomnia and various causes as well. Insomnia can be broken up into primary and secondary. Primary insomnia means there is absolutely no medical, physical, or emotional reason for the insomnia. Secondary insomnia means there is a reason for the insomnia is it medical, psychological or physical. Generally, secondary insomnia is treated by a physician and primary insomnia is treated with behavioral therapy.

The behavioral therapy often includes things such as sleep hygiene, progressive muscle relaxation, stimulus control, cognitive restructuring, and sleep restriction and scheduling. These have been very successful in treatment centers across the country.

It is imperative that a person get relaxed prior to attempting to go to sleep. Reading a book, watching some TV, or anything relaxing is a great start when attempting to get some sleep but if you lay there and find that you lost all interest in sleeping, get out of bed and do something else until you feel tired again. Laying there, tossing and turning is not going to do anything but make matters worse.

Natural Ways To Treat Insomnia

Natural Ways To Treat Insomnia

Article by Gray Rollins

Although it’s quite common for most people to have an occasional sleepless night, lack of sleep on a regular basis can be disturbing. This is insomnia. Insomnia can leave you feeling tired and groggy throughout the day. It also causes psychological and physiological damage to the body. Before you look for a natural treatment for insomnia, consult a doctor. Sometimes, insomnia can be a symptom of another condition, like sleep apnea, lung disease, hot flashes or diabetes. When these underlying ailments are treated, insomnia may disappear too. Some natural remedies include:

Changes in lifestyle:

A major part of the food we eat is made up of toxins, which cause imbalance in the body. This acid-alkaline imbalance directly leads to insomnia in some people. Margarine, and other hydrogenated fats, refined table salt, mono sodium glutamate, sugar, chocolate, corn syrup, refined oils, baking powder, junk food, fried food, soft drinks and alcohol are all toxins. Replace these with natural foods. Vegetables and fruits contain a lot of fiber and natural enzymes that will balance the acid-alkaline ratio in the body. Fruit juices are not as good as the fruits themselves though. Avoid adding sugar to juices.

In women, insomnia is a common occurrence at the time of menopause. This may be due to the reduced levels of estrogen. Estrogen is needed by the body to absorb magnesium. Magnesium is an important nutrient that helps to relax muscles. A reduction in estrogen levels can directly cause insomnia, heart palpitations, and fibromyalgia. Magnesium-rich vegetables and fruits will help combat this problem.

Avoid stimulants during the day. Caffeine in coffee has the ability to stimulate the brain and reduce sleep. Some people can suffer from insomnia even if they have had only a single cup of coffee during the day.

Drink lots of water, as water helps to detoxify the body and flush toxins from the body.

Exercise:Sensible exercise will help increase blood circulation and give you a pleasant feeling of being tired. But, do not over-exercise. High exercise combined with a low-fat diet can cause insomnia. Excessive exercise leads to tightening of muscles and this makes sleep difficult.

Yoga:Yogic exercises help to improve the quality of sleep. The practice of certain postures increases blood circulation to the sleep centers in the brain, thus normalizing the sleep cycle. Deep breathing allows more oxygen into the body and clears the mind.

Tai Chi:Originated in China as one of the martial arts, Tai Chi combines elements of workout, meditation and dance. It focuses on controlled breathing, concentration and relaxation of muscles. Over a six-month period Tai Chi can improve sleep quality and lessen insomnia.

Relaxation techniques:Do not watch horror or crime movies just before you get to bed. Practicing a relaxation technique in bed will help induce sleep by calming the mind and relaxing the muscles. The relaxation technique does not aim to bring sleep; rather its aim is to achieve complete relaxation. Sleep will then be a natural by-product.

Reiki:Reiki is applied via the hands of the practitioner. The practitioner simply places his or her hands on the corresponding organs of the body to facilitate healing. This results in a deeply relaxing experience. Reiki is an excellent technique for stress management. It is a self-empowering and holistic healing process.

Self-hypnosis:Self-hypnosis consists of learning certain relaxation techniques that allow access to the subconscious mind. By using suggestions, one can persuade the subconscious mind to conquer insomnia. Many times, it is the mind’s fixation with sleeplessness that leads to insomnia. Insomnia can be treated naturally, without taking any medication. However, a firm faith in the process is absolutely necessary.

Talk to your doctor about this problem and explain that you don’t want to take pills. He should suggest you different things you can do as the type of exercise you can do before you go to sleep or which tea is best for insomnia.
You can try a glass of warm milk every time before you go to bed. If you do it always it will in time make a sort of habit for your organism and you will fill sleepy every time you drink milk before bed.
