Question by polojesse: How long does effexor cause insomnia for?
I just started taking effexor on Thursday for depression, anxiety, muscle pain, and migraines. Before I started taking it I would always wake up early in the morning (6 to 7 am) and not be able to fall asleep but now I also am waking up about 4 times throughout the night and having a hard time falling back asleep. My question is will this go away after the 1st couple weeks of taking this drug or will I continue having insomnia the whole time?
I have always avoided taking pills but my depression/anxiety got so bad I just lay on the couch and watch tv day from the physical pain it causes me.

Best answer:

Answer by antidepressantnightmare
GET OFF THE ANTIDEPRESSANTS NOW. They are a catastrophe. I have had many friends get destroyed forever by them. And worse yet, they don’t even know it; they were like the heroine addict saying all is well, while every last beautiful thing in them got destroyed forever. Even tapering off the meds did not bring everything back.

You have insomnia because portions of your brain are being driven to their death. Antidepressants work by killing brain cells – the drug companies describe it as “pruning offending neurons”. This info is difficult to actually track down, and your doctor or counselor may not even know it. They are serious meds that should not be out in the general public; they were developed for institutions.

Worse yet, medical professionals receive kickbacks for the prescriptions they write, which creates a financial incentive for them to put people on this garbage.

It’s pure damage all the way – please quit before it really is over.

Most likely your depression and anxiety are caused by loneliness. That is not an illness – if you are alone, forget the job and find someone to love. That will be much better than being destroyed until you can’t feel any needs.

Google “antidepressants corkscrew axons”

Google “brain zaps” and look at the drop down menu that comes up. click on effexor.

Get into the realm of discovery regarding this, and listen to the people who have been hurt by these meds, NOT your doctor.

What is Insomnia?

Article by Kenny Ward

What is insomnia? Insomnia is when a person has any sleep related difficulties, mainly falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early in the morning. Each of these can be extremely irritating and can affect the way that the rest of your day plays out. This is because when you do get up you are still tired and not refreshed. Over a period of time people who suffer from insomnia tend to develop mood disorders, they lack motivation, the inability to concentrate, lack of energy, and constantly being tired.

People need adequate sleep in order to maintain a healthy and productive life. It has been said the people spend about 1/3 of their lifetimes sleeping. That certainly seems like a lot of time but proper sleep is needed for a healthy human body including the vital organs and the brain. The brain really works some magic while a person is asleep. Without sleep the brain begins to lose its ability to function.

While the amount of sleep that a person gets does not seem to be quite as important as the quality of sleep that they get, the two are still completely related. Insomnia has very grave effect over a period of time, both physical and psychological. Impaired mind functioning, accidents, anxiety and depression, stress, heart attacks, and headaches are common consequences of insomnia. Health can deteriorate as the person gets mentally and physically weaker, becomes more irritable, and develops a wakened immune system that can lead to all kinds of illness.

Sleep occurs in a very unique manner. When it is time for sleep, the retina in the eye sends a message to your brain; your brain in turn sends a message to another part of the brain to produce the hormone melatonin, this in turn causes a drop in body temperature and the person begins to feel signs of sleepiness. While this is going on, the brain starts to deactivate three of the brains chemical messengers that are responsible for keeping one alert, histamine, norephinephrine, and serotonin. So it is very important that the brain gets its rest so that it can function properly on a daily basis.

There are various types of insomnia and various causes as well. Insomnia can be broken up into primary and secondary. Primary insomnia means there is absolutely no medical, physical, or emotional reason for the insomnia. Secondary insomnia means there is a reason for the insomnia is it medical, psychological or physical. Generally, secondary insomnia is treated by a physician and primary insomnia is treated with behavioral therapy.

The behavioral therapy often includes things such as sleep hygiene, progressive muscle relaxation, stimulus control, cognitive restructuring, and sleep restriction and scheduling. These have been very successful in treatment centers across the country.

It is imperative that a person get relaxed prior to attempting to go to sleep. Reading a book, watching some TV, or anything relaxing is a great start when attempting to get some sleep but if you lay there and find that you lost all interest in sleeping, get out of bed and do something else until you feel tired again. Laying there, tossing and turning is not going to do anything but make matters worse.

One of the biggest problems while you sleep is Enuresis, to understand more about Enuresis, check enuresis nocturna today

Natural Ways To Treat Insomnia

Article by Gray Rollins

Although it’s quite common for most people to have an occasional sleepless night, lack of sleep on a regular basis can be disturbing. This is insomnia. Insomnia can leave you feeling tired and groggy throughout the day. It also causes psychological and physiological damage to the body. Before you look for a natural treatment for insomnia, consult a doctor. Sometimes, insomnia can be a symptom of another condition, like sleep apnea, lung disease, hot flashes or diabetes. When these underlying ailments are treated, insomnia may disappear too. Some natural remedies include:

Changes in lifestyle:

A major part of the food we eat is made up of toxins, which cause imbalance in the body. This acid-alkaline imbalance directly leads to insomnia in some people. Margarine, and other hydrogenated fats, refined table salt, mono sodium glutamate, sugar, chocolate, corn syrup, refined oils, baking powder, junk food, fried food, soft drinks and alcohol are all toxins. Replace these with natural foods. Vegetables and fruits contain a lot of fiber and natural enzymes that will balance the acid-alkaline ratio in the body. Fruit juices are not as good as the fruits themselves though. Avoid adding sugar to juices.

In women, insomnia is a common occurrence at the time of menopause. This may be due to the reduced levels of estrogen. Estrogen is needed by the body to absorb magnesium. Magnesium is an important nutrient that helps to relax muscles. A reduction in estrogen levels can directly cause insomnia, heart palpitations, and fibromyalgia. Magnesium-rich vegetables and fruits will help combat this problem.

Avoid stimulants during the day. Caffeine in coffee has the ability to stimulate the brain and reduce sleep. Some people can suffer from insomnia even if they have had only a single cup of coffee during the day.

Drink lots of water, as water helps to detoxify the body and flush toxins from the body.

Exercise:Sensible exercise will help increase blood circulation and give you a pleasant feeling of being tired. But, do not over-exercise. High exercise combined with a low-fat diet can cause insomnia. Excessive exercise leads to tightening of muscles and this makes sleep difficult.

Yoga:Yogic exercises help to improve the quality of sleep. The practice of certain postures increases blood circulation to the sleep centers in the brain, thus normalizing the sleep cycle. Deep breathing allows more oxygen into the body and clears the mind.

Tai Chi:Originated in China as one of the martial arts, Tai Chi combines elements of workout, meditation and dance. It focuses on controlled breathing, concentration and relaxation of muscles. Over a six-month period Tai Chi can improve sleep quality and lessen insomnia.

Relaxation techniques:Do not watch horror or crime movies just before you get to bed. Practicing a relaxation technique in bed will help induce sleep by calming the mind and relaxing the muscles. The relaxation technique does not aim to bring sleep; rather its aim is to achieve complete relaxation. Sleep will then be a natural by-product.

Reiki:Reiki is applied via the hands of the practitioner. The practitioner simply places his or her hands on the corresponding organs of the body to facilitate healing. This results in a deeply relaxing experience. Reiki is an excellent technique for stress management. It is a self-empowering and holistic healing process.

Self-hypnosis:Self-hypnosis consists of learning certain relaxation techniques that allow access to the subconscious mind. By using suggestions, one can persuade the subconscious mind to conquer insomnia. Many times, it is the mind’s fixation with sleeplessness that leads to insomnia. Insomnia can be treated naturally, without taking any medication. However, a firm faith in the process is absolutely necessary.

I notice that I have insomnia which is something that I have never dealt with before and it is making it hard for me to go to sleep. I have heard that Sleeping pills are bad because they make the body dependent on them later on but I feel like I have a hard time going to sleep.

Best answer:

Answer by Andjelika
Talk to your doctor about this problem and explain that you don’t want to take pills. He should suggest you different things you can do as the type of exercise you can do before you go to sleep or which tea is best for insomnia.
You can try a glass of warm milk every time before you go to bed. If you do it always it will in time make a sort of habit for your organism and you will fill sleepy every time you drink milk before bed.

Examining Insomnia In Children

Article by Ken Glauser

Sadly sometimes children are faced with medical problems usually associated with adults and adult behavior. While the age difference between children and adults can be substantial, the negative impacts can be as severe with a child as it is with an adult. Sometimes the child’s negative impact can be more dramatic and harmful than the adults. When this happens, it is unfortunate that the children haven’t built up the strength or immunity to fight it.

The effects of insomnia in children can be quite dramatic. There are a number of residual effects with a child that suffers from bouts of insomnia. These effects can make the child’s life very difficult. Difficulty in school, an inability to maintain a social life and a host or other problems can result from a poor night’s sleep. Successful treatment for insomnia in children always starts with a proper diagnosis. A proper diagnosis leads to effective proper treatment. There are lots of conditions that could lead to the insomnia. Insomnia can be the result of both mental and physical problems. As with many disorders, there is an unfortunate tendency for parents to downplay a potentially serious condition that is in fact quite serious.

Ascertaining a Proper Diagnosis of Insomnia in Children

Most people will have to deal with insomnia at one point or another within their lifetime. If the insomnia becomes continual, that may indicate a serious underlying condition. Parents must take insomnia in a child seriously. If it isn’t taken seriously, then a proper diagnosis can’t be made and without a proper diagnosis, proper treatment can’t take place. This doesn’t help the child and may, in fact, lead to a worsening of the underlying condition. If your child displays signs of general tiredness or his attitude changes or his mental process slows down, it may be a sign of poor sleep. It has been proved that a child’s IQ suffers more from poor sleep than exposure to lead. Get it checked.

Insomnia in Children and the Parent’s Role

If you as a parent notice the presence of insomnia in your child, it is then your responsibility to make sure the condition is treated properly. In your primary role as caregiver, you must not neglect this responsibility. Neglecting the condition won’t help and in fact can make it worse. The ramifications can be dire. So many things in our adult lives are planted in us as a child. Let your child have all the chances to grow up strong and confident. No sleep equals limited abilities.

As a parent you must not ignore potentially serious conditions and while insomnia may not seem like a serious condition, it can be. A superficial analysis of a problem by an untrained person isn’t the way to go. Insomnia in children should be diagnosed and treated by a professional. There are sleep doctors in most major cities. If you child is suffering from insomnia, search out a sleep doctor or have your family doctor refer your child.

Article by Gerrard Mackenzie

Any sufferer of insomnia can attest to the grueling nights that they have to spend tossing and turning in bed and counting millions of sheep in an attempt to have some valuable hours of uninterrupted and restorative sleep. Some nights you may seem to give up on it entirely but you should keep up the effort of getting enough sleep at night.

A type of sleep disorder, insomnia is manifested by the inability to fall asleep during bedtime hours. Furthermore, when an insomniac does fall asleep, it is easily interrupted by the slightest disturbance. Overall, insomnia has unpleasant effects to a person.

A person who is suffering from insomnia does not get the chance to have a good night’s rest. His/her body, skin, bones and muscles were not given a chance to become restored and replenished. The parts of the body that has been worn out most from the previous rigorous day were not sufficiently mended and fixed.

Moreover, during the day, a person with insomnia is usually in a foul mood, irritable and impatient, looks worn-out and tired, lacks proper concentration and focus, has memory deficiency and has high risk of encountering an accident because of sleep deprivation.

If you have these symptoms of insomnia, it is important that you consult with a doctor or most preferably, a sleep specialist. But, you should not to ask for a drug prescription that will help to induce unnatural sleep, but request for their expertise in addressing insomnia from its root causes and help you win the quest for a restorative night’s sleep.

Most likely, the sleep scientist will perform a variety of evaluation, series of tests and other determining procedures in order to track down the main cause or the various causes of your insomnia.

Analyzing the causes of insomnia is as significant as identifying its symptoms. Knowing how and why your sleeplessness occurs can get you on the right track to treating or preventing such condition.

There are ways of identifying and assessing the causes of a person’s insomnia. Here are some:

* Gender – the gender of a person plays an important aspect in analyzing the reasons for occurrence of insomnia. Insomnia often happens when a person is undergoing some hormonal changes and more often than not, women are frequently target. Pregnancy and menopause usually cause sleeplessness and restlessness at night.

* Lifestyle – it is important to ascertain how a person conducts his life in order to identify what is causing his/her insomnia. There is likelihood for people living a sedentary lifestyle to have trouble sleeping at night.

People working night shifts are also prone to such because their schedule usually causes Circadian Rhythm Disorder. The same also happens to frequent travelers who are crossing different time zones. Adjusting your body’s biological time clock in order to follow a routine that it is not what you are naturally used to can be a difficult challenge.

Furthermore, if you are in the habit of drinking alcoholic drinks a few hours before bedtime, smoking heavily and taking caffeinated drinks like soft drinks, coffee, and tea during the day, you also face high probability of insomnia.

In addition, people who have are into successive vigorous activity every day may have difficulty falling asleep at night because of increased levels of adrenaline.

* Medical conditions (mental, physical, physiological, psychological) – people afflicted with certain medical conditions have trouble falling asleep and sleeping soundly.

Meanwhile, some prescribed medicine preparations or over-the-counter drugs being taken to combat these medical conditions have side effects that usually involve sleeplessness or disruptive sleep.

* Environmental conditions – exposure to too much light, incessant noise, variations in temperature and location, noisy or restless bed partners are also additional factors that can undermine your quest to a good night’s sleep.

Gerrard Mackenzie is the author of the eBook Supercharge Your Sleep and has taught thousands of the stressed-out, tired and overworked how to overcome their sleeping difficulties and get a better night’s rest. He is also a great promoter of the power nap.

Some Effective Ways to Cure Insomnia

Article by Jenifer

There are various ways to cure insomnia You just have to be aware of the nature of this sleeping disorder. Having insomnia or not getting enough quality sleep for a long period of time, may make you always feel tired and may cause you to have health problems. Stress, depression or change in your routines may be just some of the reasons why you are suffering from this disorder. Insomnia can be occasional, a temporary occurrence or chronic. But whatever your condition is, you definitely need to get adequate sleep. That’s why you have to consider ways to cure insomnia.

Most adults are required to have 7 to 8 hours sleep a night. As we all get older, we tend to need a lesser amount of sleep. The elderly who are over 70′s may only need to have 5 hours a night, which may be a shallow sleep. Most of these people think that since they don’t get the required 7-8 hours of sleep, they are suffering from insomnia when in fact, even if they only get 5 hours but they feel refreshed when they wake up, they are actually getting enough sleep.

Most insomniacs try over-the-counter medications that contain diphenhydramine. Most people are not aware that there are natural ways to cure insomnia If you have emotional problems that cause trouble in sleeping it may be best to consult a behavioral therapist or a psychologist. This may benefit you more than taking in medications that may tend to get you addicted in the end.

Altering your sleeping environment may also help in curing your insomnia By doing this, you can have an undisturbed sleep in a peaceful place. You may also have a comfortable bed and turn off all the lights. If you are easily disturbed with sounds, a padded sound-proof room may benefit you a lot in getting rid of those unwanted noises outside. Avoid taking a nap in the afternoon. Use relaxation techniques that can help you unwind. Avoid stimulants like beverages like tea and coffee that contain caffeine. Avoid medications that have ephedra and pseudoephedrine that are dieting and cold pills. Do not smoke and drink alcohol just before bedtime. Also do not eat rich food and avoid exercising before trying to get to sleep in the night.

Having a snack that is high in carbohydrates like a lettuce sandwich may help you sleep easily. This snack may help you produce more serotonin, which is a hormone known to help you control sleep as well as reduce anxiety. It may also help if you take a hot bath with 2 cups of Epsom salts in it, a few minutes before going to bed. Exercising, if done earlier in the day, may help you go to sleep at night. You may also try putting drops of lavender essential oil near where you sleep or on your pillow because this oil has sedative properties. Some people also have themselves treated with acupuncture as this can help them with their insomnia.

These are just some of the natural ways to cure insomnia It is of course very important for an insomniac to understand what causes his sleeping problems. If you are faced with a personal or professional problem, which may be the reason why you cannot sleep at night, it is best to do something about it, rather than take in medications that don’t guarantee you a quality sleep every night.
